Excellence in Indigenous Boarding Leadership

Sponsored by Boarding Training Australia

Neil Morison, Dawurr Boarding, Nhulunbuy High School, Northern Territory

Neil Morison is the Head of Dawurr Boarding, situated in North East Arnhem Land that caters for Aboriginal students in the region.

Neil set-up Dawurr in 2016 with 10 weeks to oversee the completion of the construction, fit out, student and staff recruitment, procurement and establishment of operational systems.

‘The award for me was such a special honour,’ says Morison.

‘I was nominated by my staff team and the day school Senior Teacher of Indigenous Education. Each of these individuals, in my opinion, would have been a more worthy winner than me.’

‘I have always tried to work for the team collective, not for our individual success, so I think this stood me in good stead in producing a team that is united in the agenda of excellence for our Indigenous students,’ Morison says.

Neil has dedicated 25 years to leadership within the education and community services sectors.

Neil’s vision as a leader and his openness to listen to the community, staff and students have been integral in ensuring the best outcomes for the students at Dawurr and managing challenging circumstances.
