$16.6 million to improve support for Indigenous boarding students was announced at the 2021 National Indigenous Education & Boarding Symposium.
Paul Denny, a/g Group Manager, Social Policy and Programs Group, National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA), informed symposium delegates the 2021-22 Budget included $16.6 million targeted to improve support for boarding schools and stand-alone providers with a high proportion of Indigenous students.

This budget measure is expected to support around 2,000 Indigenous boarding students and to provide funding for around 40 boarding providers who may be eligible for funding in the 2021-22 financial year.
NIAA welcomes feedback from boarding providers and other interested stakeholders, particularly in relation to the grant guidelines and any further ideas on what the funding should be able to be used for.
