Although 2023 has been a challenging year, the IEBA Board have been active with continued advocacy regarding:

  • ABSTUDY means testing for remote families
  • Indigenous students travel and funding reimbursement for schools
  • Design of Indigenous boarding funding,
as well as battling in the Fair Work Commission to align ‘hostels’ employment conditions with boarding school staff.

Whilst the next Symposium isn’t planned until 2024, this year we have presented at the National Indigenous Empowerment Summit in Cairns, led a What Works Workshop for ABSA, and co-hosted with Independent Schools QLD the Indigenous Boarding Workshop.

Next year is looking to be an exciting year as we will continue strong advocacy and look to restore the National Indigenous Education & Boarding Symposium and the National Indigenous Boarding Awards.

We thank all our members who have continued to support IEBA and support the vision ‘that all Indigenous students attain educational outcomes to be successful in their future choices.’
